Rebuilding libraries lost in the LA fires

About

The LA fires devastated the Pacific Palisades and Altadena neighborhoods in January 2025. Rohan and his family were among thousands who lost their homes and all of their belongings, including their beloved home library. Rohan created Reading Among Ruins to help children and teachers who were impacted by the fires to rebuild their home and school libraries. We have already collected and distributed thousands of books to children and teachers in Los Angeles through direct drop-offs and free bookshop pop-up events. We continue to receive requests from families and schools to help replace books that they have lost in the fires.

About the Founder

Rohan Mukhopadhyay is a 7th grader from Pacific Palisades. He and his family lost their home and all their belongings, including their beloved book collection, in the Palisades fire.
